This guideline provides the companies with specific suggestion on how to host internships. The guideline covers topic such as: creation of fruitful cooperation with VET institutions; organisation and tutoring of the internship.

There are numerous opportunities offered by the virtual internship both to the future employees of the companies and to the companies themselves. Considering the interest of employers, the use of virtual training allows reaching many candidates without distinction or geographical limitation. This allows to reduce the costs of selection and to offer opportunities to deserving but logistically distant candidates. It allows companies with limited space to be able to host an intern even if there is no space for training or when it is not possible to give the intern an office workstation. Even for the candidates we can say that now companies in different economic sectors use the virtual training tool to recruit the best interns.

For example, the Barcelona sports club, which in the early days of January 2018, through the virtual internship tool, is interested in recruiting interns for the following tasks:

  • Assist research and create new case studies dedicated to football

  • Produce content for the Institute's blog and the news section dedicated to the world of football

  • Analyze the future scenario for investors in football

  • Collaborate with football industry executives from various clubs and federations

  • Help the content creation team for social media

  • Analyze the sports business scenario

However, the development of the virtual internship as a staff recruitment tool focused specifically on the marketing and communication sector. Through this tool we are looking for experts in social media marketing, software developers, content creators for corporate blogs, webmasters, designers, etc. In the last few years, the search for personnel has been developed through virtual internships also in the financial sector and for the management of the company treasury. Researchers, financial analysts, economists, etc. are more and more often integrated into companies through a virtual internship. From what has been said in this historical period we are assisting a phase in the development of companies that, through technology, allow them to be able to communicate remotely with their collaborators. Even sectors such as administration, management control, production planning and warehouse management can be managed by workers who only occasionally need to physically visit the company. Therefore, in these areas, the search for personnel will make use of the virtual internship
