Students

This guideline provides VET students with specific suggestions on how to participate in internships. It is advisable that VET trainers analyse the contents together with the students since the first steps of the organisation of the internship. The guideline covers topic such as: selection of the company; writing of the CV; behaviour rules in a company.
Table of Contents
1.1 Teleworking and Virtual Traineeship in a Company
1.1.3 Methodology for the Selection of the Company

Students who are interested in virtual traineeships can search online opportunities offered in social media and the websites of national or international, public or private recruitment agencies / companies, using different filters, for example, industry, location of the company, age groups, salary, language skills, and others. An online facility finds relevant companies and presents job listings. Not all companies offer traineeships through recruitment agencies/ companies. A lot of large companies which are willing to host trainees upload their requirements and job descriptions directly on the company website.

Students should carry out self-assessment to identify what added value they could bring to the traineeship providers, and what added values the students can gain from their virtual traineeships. After the identification of traineeship providers in the student’s professional fields of interest, traineeship candidates can select companies. They should access company uploaded profiles, job descriptions and contact information. Initially, the students should select several companies in the order of preference because it is possible that, if just one company has been selected, it will not select the particular candidate.

In order to avoid fake companies, candidate trainees should study company websites and carry out research of the companies using different strategies.

After having chosen a company, trainee candidates can contact the possible virtual traineeship provider and send him/ her an online cover letter and CV or email them.  In case the company requirements and the students’ skills and qualifications match, after document screening, the successful candidate is invited for a telephone interview, or a video interview through Skype. When the matching process has been completed successfully, and an agreement between a trainee, traineeship provider and a VET provider has been signed, the virtual traineeship can start. The digital mentor’s profile, including his/ her contact information, should be available on the Internet. It is important to remember that the traineeship provider will assess several candidates, then shortlist a few of them, and finally, after the matching process, only one candidate will be hosted for the traineeship. Therefore, a traineeship candidate should prepare for a job interview thoroughly.
