3.2 Traineeship Pathway
3.2.3 How to Evaluate a CV

Companies that start a selection process with the aim of identifying interns to be trained and in the future to be hired within their organization must evaluate various aspects. If the research is public, the society will soon receive numerous curricula. In this case it is necessary to make a continuous comparison with the required professional profile and it is preferable, in this case to make a division into classes. In the first class will be included the curricula certainly interesting, because they fully correspond to the required professional profile; in the second class, interesting, but oversized, candidatures can be included; a third class will contain those that will not be used if there is no need; the fourth class will include the questions that do not meet the required requirements, while in a fifth one can collect curricula that may affect other personnel selection. In the selection processes and in the evaluation of a Curriculum the emotion that the document raises in the first thirty seconds of reading are those that determine the possibility that the aspiring trainee is or not called to participate in the following selection phase. This aspect has often been considered in the numerous publications that suggest to the students how to prepare a curriculum. Considering this situation on the business side, it is important to ask whether this method of operating is correct. Experience tells us yes. In many cases the evaluations made by the selectors have proved to be correct, but this is not always the case. Are There techniques that allow us to choose one CV over another? Usually it is preferred to valorize those CVs that have the following characteristics:

  1. Meticulousness, both in editing and in information.

  2. Customization of contents considering the characteristics of the company.

  3. Sobriety in the lexicon used, little sought after and artificial.

  4. Accuracy and relevance of the information contained, which must be inherent to the work activity.

  5. Attention to detail, including the choice of the photo

In detail, companies focus their attention on some topics such as:

  • References of companies or professors

  • study time

  • time spent in each position

  • career logic evolution.

  • coherence of the study plan with the work carried out

  • Search for inconsistencies in the chronology
