2.1 Introduction
2.1.5 How to Prepare a Good Internship

The realization of a good internship depends on several factors all linked together.

The Vet Institution must carefully examine the decisive elements of the internship, namely:

  • Characteristics of the trainee: its curricular aspects, but also character and expectations, the motivation that drives the realization of the traineeship.

  • Criteria to choose the company or organization where to do the internship: the solidity of the company or the host organization is particularly relevant, doing a cross-search on the web and having other references on the odor with which the company has already implemented other traineeships, the possession of suitable personnel to perform the role of corporate tutor possibly not coinciding with the owner or manager;

  • Consistency and seriousness of the training project: having it examined by one's own professor of trust (description, structure and duration must be adequate to the required commitment);

  • Good assistance in logistics and procedural aspects, as well as the provision of an adequate scholarship or reimbursement of expenses.

  • Suitable monitoring tools that allow intervention by the Vet Institution and the company if there is a discrepancy with what has been planned and agreed for the realization of the internship.

In order to activate an internship in the company, a good interaction between the 3 protagonists is essential

  • Vet Institution

  • Trainee

  • Business tutor

As a rule, the company and the promoter (Vet Institution) are both required to appoint a tutor, it has a role determined for the success of a traineeship, be it real or virtuous. The tutor indicated by the promoter body supervises the correct execution of the internship in the company, while the company tutor covers a real training function, supporting the trainee in his / her learning path.

It is important not to disregard the trainee's expectations with under-utilization, often due to the company's inability to follow the trainee and to fulfill the training function.

In the case of virtual training it is clear that assistance will be through IT systems, using both common communication tools such as e-mails, but also interface systems or platforms that allow you to view and monitor the work done and to give possible directives or information.
